Feminist Fiction Friday

One of my clients is looking for books featuring women cops who are partnered with other women a la Cagney & Lacey.  The book he had was really not good, so he challenged me to find one better. There's the Rizzoli & Isles books of course, but that's already been turned into a series. I realized that I couldn't think of any other books off the top of my head except for C.J. Lyons' books and her sleuths aren't cops, they're doctors and nurses.  Anyone have any ideas?

  1. Wow! I'm drawing a blank. Strange, isn't it, that there doesn't seem to be any female pairings. I would suggest Laurie R. King's Kate Martinelli series. While Kate is working with a male cop, she has a female lover that she lives with. So there is no sexual tension between her and her partner.

With female pairings I think you're going to have to try the cozy mysteries and amateur sleuths. But even there I'm coming up blank.

  2. Scott and Bailey is a fine and gritty British TV series that I've really enjoyed.

Strong, down to earth female characters and great swearing.

The stories are ok but the main thing is the interaction between the cast. Some splendid acting, too.

  3. If a little BSP is permitted, my series character, prostitute Diana Andrews, and her sidekick Mary Alice often team up. That's when they're getting along, which is not always.

  4. Great thoughts everyone--
@Sandra--I cannot believe BOTH of us are coming up blank
@Paul--perhaps an American remake is in the cards
@Al--I do enjoy your Diana and Mary Alice stories...I'll throw it out there.
